Boca Raton's City Summer Camps – What You Need to Know

Are you stressing out because you still haven't found something for your kids to do during the summer? Worried that you're going to be stuck hiring an expensive nanny to take care of your children while you work?

Thankfully, Boca Raton is looking out for you as the city provides official budget-friendly summer camps to all residents for children from first to eighth grade. Whether you're looking for a summer-long traditional summer camp or a more subjectively focused summer “program”, you'll find what you're looking for from Boca's wide array of publicly available summer activities.

The Traditional Camp is a 6 week long camp filled with about 3 field trips per week and countless fun activities, starting June 18th and extending until July 27th. There is the Traditional Camp, which is for children grades 1 through 5, and there is the 'Tween Camp for grades 6 to 8, so don't feel these are only for young kids. There are 3 weeks of extended camps available for an extra fee, and a Traditional Plus Camp that offers a field trip every single day for maximum fun. Of course, the Traditional Plus Camp also costs about $100 more per child.

If you're on a tight budget, don't anticipate needing supervision all summer, or just want to give your child some chill time at home, there are also week by week camps of the same style available. If you're going the week-by-week route, why not also take a look at some of Sugar Sand Park's Summer Programs? They're each a week long and focused on one subject, including:

Video Production

Claymation

Make Your Own Music Video

Theater Performance

Dancing

Robotics

Juggling

Business Training (It's called Billionaire Boot Camp, and it's a blast!)

Survival

And many more...

Remember, these camps are here for your kids just as much as they're here for you; your youngsters will love attending just as much as you love dropping them off. The city of Boca Raton actually offers several different summer camps that all fit this description: you drop your campers off on your way to work by 7:30 AM and you pick them up on your way home at 5:30 PM. It couldn't be more convenient.

No matter what your supervisions needs are this summer, you'll want to be sure to check Boca Raton's city website for a full list of camps, times, ages and costs. Don't deprive your kids of a fun and active summer instead of a boring, lonely one spent at home playing video-games. You and your kids deserve to make the best of these precious few summer months, and there's no better way to do that than through Boca Raton's super fun and convenient summer camps.

Red Light Cameras are Installed in Boca Raton

It turns out that the crown jewel of Florida isn't just about high end living and unparalleled luxury; the community that is Boca Raton, Florida also makes safety and family values a top priority. Evidence? Look no further than the new red light cameras at six intersections throughout the city, only just made fully operational on April 14, 2012.

The 12 new red light cameras have been installed via contract with American Traffic Solutions at 6 high traffic intersections throughout the city. The cameras will run 24 hours a day, and are estimated to bring the city over $400,000 per year in much needed funding from ticket fees; the city receives $75 of every single driver who's successfully fined.

Here's a sample list of who's getting caught on camera in Boca Raton:

Eastbound and Westbound traffic on Glades Road at NW. 2nd Avenue

Eastbound and Northbound traffic on Glades Road and St. Andrews Boulevard

Northbound and Southbound traffic on Military Trail at Spanish River Boulevard

Northbound and Southbound traffic on federal highway at NE. 20th Street

Northbound and Southbound traffic on Congress Avenue at Clint Moore Road

Eastbound and Westbound traffic on Glades Road at NW. 15th Avenue (delayed; estimated to be operational in August)

Many of the drivers in Boca Raton may see the installation of these cameras as a frustrating hassle, but you'll be hard-pressed to find a parent who isn't happy with the extra safety measure. Some of the area politicians that opposed the institution plead that the increased frequency of rear end accidents caused by the red light cameras would outweigh the potential decrease in red-light-runners. However, since statistically a T-bone crash is much worse than a rear end accident, the argument doesn't seem to hold much weight.

After months of deliberation and studying the effects of such cameras in other states and cities, Boca Raton finally gave the go ahead for installation, determining that safety is what matters most in the end. Cops love them, drivers hate them, but in the end anything that can potentially make the streets safer is worth a try. Plus, the extra money can be used to further improve one of the most luxurious cities in Florida!

Boca Raton Real Estate Market

Boca Raton, Florida has something to offer any prospective homebuyer with an eye for luxury. You'll find gorgeous waterfront property, dozens of exclusive and well kept communities, an excellent array of schools at all educational levels, and much more. You deserve the best, and in the following paragraphs I'm going to tell you why I believe you will find the best in the coastal city of Boca Raton.

What Sets Boca Raton Apart?

I believe the most distinctive feature of Boca Raton is that no matter what level of luxury you're seeking, you can find something both secluded and prestigious at your level. There are gated communities for families of every budget-level, and while some are certainly nicer than others (and thus more expensive), they all fit the definition of luxury. You'll be hardpressed to find a home or condo that's not within 15 minutes of a of a beach, and that's just plain hard to beat.

For the family looking for privacy, safety and comfort there are one and two-story homes, family oriented country clubs, gated communities, 'normal' neighborhoods and just about everything inbetween, and at a wide array of prices. Which brings me to...

What's the Boca Raton Real Estate Market Like?

Right now, as in the rest of the US, Boca Raton is experiencing a buyer's market. This is great news for you! Both property value and interest rates are at an all-time low, which means anything you buy now, should be a great deal. In fact, it's not uncommon for property in Boca Raton to sell for the same price that it did 10 years ago! If you buy a home or condo now and enjoy it for a few years until the housing market recovers, you'll likely be able to resell it for a nice profit.

Range of Property Value?

Well, looking at the available data from the Boca Raton real estate market, the average median sale price is right around $150K. However, if you browse through listings you will see everything from $100K to well over $10M. For example, there are multiple exclusive subdivisions in Boca Raton of just 10 – 15 custom estates each, and generally those properties are all over $5M. However, there are other subdivisions and communities that are a little less exclusive, and that's where you'll find the wider range of prices.

All in all, Boca Raton is an excellent place to find your next home. Whether you're looking to add to your investment portfolio or to give your family the luxurious lifestyle they deserve, there's a home or condo waiting in Boca Raton that will make you extremely happy.

Boca Raton Realty – Now is the Time For You to Strike Gold

Have you always dreamt of owning tropical, waterfront property? Maybe you'd love to add a vacation home to your real estate portfolio, either for personal use or profit? Boca Raton boasts some of the most luxurious communities in the nation, but that doesn't mean you can't find a good deal.

What is the Real Estate Market Like in Boca Raton?

Boca Raton is in a strong buyer's market right now. The recession of the past decade has made the housing market somewhat volatile, and Boca Raton has not been at all immune to that. However, this doesn't have to be a bad thing for you. In fact, with more foreclosures and short sales than ever, you're quite likely to find that rock-bottom deal that leaves you smiling for weeks afterwards.

When people need to liquidate their property, they're willing to reduce their asking price by leaps and bounds. This is why Boca Raton is a goldmine for anyone with a stable budget; if you know you can afford it, there's prime real estate to be had for extremely attractive prices.

Where Do You Find the Best Deals in Boca Raton?

Thanks to the huge amount of foreclosures sweeping across Florida, you can find houses for sale by the bank that are marked well below their real value – This is called a short sale, and it's when the bank is willing to take an overall loss to recoup at least a portion of their investment. When a bank forecloses on a property, they're sole concern is turn around time; they want to recoup as much of their investment as possible, sure, but they also want to do it as fast as possible. Keep an eye on the market in Boca Raton for a couple weeks and you'll see exactly what I mean.

Condos are another area that could potentially be very profitable for you. The nice thing about buying a condo is that you can find them for under $100K, which is basically unheard of for a house in Boca Raton. Condos are great for the investor because while you're waiting for your property values to spike you can actively recoup your investment via rental.

Important Tip to Finding Your Dream House in Boca Raton

The last thing I want to do is stress the importance of patience when browsing the real estate listings in Boca Raton. You'll be shocked at how many owners will start slashing their original asking price after a few weeks...Sellers feel anxious in this economy and don't like having a listing just sitting around without seeing any interest. So, if you see a house you like, just sit on it a couple weeks. See what happens; you might be pleasantly surprised.

All in all, Boca Raton is an excellent investment opportunity for those who can afford it in this rough economy. A strong buyer's market combined with prime waterfront property and a wide array of country clubs mean you have lots of opportunities to strike gold on the Gold Coast.

Boater's Paradise in Boca Raton

There are more than a few subdivisions and communities within Boca Raton, and each offers a little something special to the prospective homeowner. As you read this article you'll learn about 3 luxurious communities in Boca Raton, Florida that will give you a good starting point for your real estate research.

Bel Marra

This exclusive beachside subdivision is defined by an atmosphere of blissful serenety. All of the subdivisions listed here are exclusive, but Bel Marra is without a doubt one of the most secluded in Boca Raton. The subdivision is arranged in a series of lanes, so that each of the 315 custom built properties only has to walk out their backyard to reach waterfront. You can literally park a small boat in your “backyard” and your car in your driveway.

Living in Bel Marra will cost you between $500K - $5M, which is actually on the lower end of luxury in comparison to some of the other subdivisions listed here. However, don't let that fool you - Rest assured that you'll be enjoying one of the most uniquely luxurious communities on the East Coast.

Boca Bay Colony

Known as a boater's haven, perhaps the most distinctive feature of the Boca Bay Colony is that just about every single home comes with its own private dock that can accommodate large boats in excess of 100 feet. One of the other distinctive features of Boca Bay is its age – Having been built in the early 70s, it has a more distinguished feel about it than most of the more recent developments. This is luxury that has stood the test of time and remains one of the most beautiful communities in Florida. It's also one of the most expensive, with the cheapest homes still selling for over $1M, and more than a few homes exceeding $8M.

Boca Raton Riviera

This family-friendly subdivision is known for its sparkling blue waterfront and it's stunning Mediterranean architecture. Every home in the community is within walking distance of the water, as Boca Raton Riviera is located right along the Intracoastal Waterways. However, not every home has direct waterfront access as in Boca Bay and Bel Marra. That means that there's a bigger variation in listing price, though…A family looking for a luxurious lifestyle can find something very nice at around $500K without much trouble, but there are properties for sale in excess of $10M as well. There's literally a property at every budget in Boca Raton Riviera

These are only 3 of the subdivisions in Boca Raton, Florida, but I'm sure you can already get a feel for what lies in wait for you in this tropical paradise. Once you see some of the available listings in these coastal communities, you're mouth will start watering – You can take that to the bank!

The country clubs in Boca Raton offer an unparalleled level of seclusion, comfort and luxury that you just won't find in a non-gated community. If you're looking for a strong sense of belonging, a host of helping hands to make your life enjoyable and fun, and well-kept landscaping that makes you smile everytime you walk outside, then one of these 4 country clubs will make an excellent place to search for your next residence.

Broken Sound Country Club

Enjoy over 1,000 beautiful acres of lush landscape in this exclusive club community. Split into 27 villages, Broken Sound offers its tenants first class single family residences, and is tailored to a peaceful and relaxing lifestyle; it's well suited for both families and retirees. You'll enjoy an assortment of amenities, including Broken Sound's well-groomed golf courses, tennis courts and a fitness center. There are always classes available in the fitness center, as well as the normal spa treatments. Housing ranges from $300K to about $2M, in addition to club membership fees.

Boca Grove Country Club

With only 443 residences inside the gates of this luxury community, Boca Grove is notable for its friendly atmosphere and meticulously kept landscaping, in addition to some of the best waterfront views in Boca Raton. Enjoy premier cuisine and a host of friendly people; the club markets itself as an open community for residents of any age and walk, and goes the extra mile to make sure you feel at ease. Many of the residents choose Boca Grove because it's optimal location, while keeping an easy commute by being close to the Florida Turnpike. It's easy to find and easy to get to, but it still feels secluded and private when you're inside the gates.

Woodfield Country Club

Now we get to touch on one of the most lush country clubs in Boca Raton – Woodfield Country Club. Divided into 20 subdivisions within the club's 830 acres, you'll find homes ranging from around $300K all the way up to $8 Million.

What sets Woodfield Country Club apart? Probably the 27 pristine private lakes, the 24/7 manned security gate, and the 12,000 square foot heated swimming pool. Of course, there's a fitness center, an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, restaurants, a salon, a spa, therapy services, and a social center (they call it The Clubhouse, and it's huge), plus a host of other amenities. Thanks to the wide price range, families and individuals of every walk can enjoy a seasonal or year round home in Woodfield.

Polo Club

For the tennis-addict who wants to perfect their sport in style, the Polo Club is the place to go. Regarded as one of the top privately owned tennis facilities in the entire world, this tropical country club has both condos and custom housing for you to choose from, and it's all surrounded by 1,100 acres of tropical Floridian landscape.

The Polo Club is the second largest country club in the USA, which naturally means that you have a wide range of options to choose from when it comes to price and living environment. You can find condos, townhomes, villas, custom estates and more inside the secure gates of Polo Club. There's lots of kid's activities available, so it's a perfect place for a family to seasonally vacation in.

Any one of these developmentss would make a great starting point for your real-estate research, and I'm sure once you browse through some listings you'll find the direction you want to go.

Public Parks in Boca Raton, Florida

Individuals who live in the “snow belt” are used to being cooped up all winter; one of their primary reasons for moving to Florida is the spectacular weather that occurs day after day – all four seasons! The Boca Raton area has a lot to offer those who want to make the most of our beautiful weather. Outdoor activities are abundant and readily available to those who choose to move here. There is golf, tennis, nature walks, and all sorts of water activities. The State of Florida in general, and Boca Raton in particular, have been diligent about keeping public parklands for its residents to enjoy. The parks in Boca Raton offer a multitude of activities. Or, if someone just wants to go to a park, relax, and enjoy nature, that’s possible, too.

Red Reef Park is a popular destination in the Boca Raton area. Snorkelers are especially enamored of this park, because there’s a man-made reef about ten feet off shore. This reef is appropriate for snorkelers of all skills levels to explore. The park also offers swimming, sunbathing, surfcasting, and walking the boardwalk to enjoy the natural environment. There’s also a designated surfing area on the south end of the beach.

South Beach Park is a twenty-four acre park with one half a mile of beachfront. This park is suitable for swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing or beach walking. There’s also surfing permitted on the south end of the park beach. Fishing is allowed outside the swimming area. South Beach Park also features rest rooms, showers, and (best of all!) a lifeguard on duty between the daytime hours of nine to five. This is extremely important to families with young children and those who come to the park to swim alone.

Another lovely Boca Raton park is South Inlet State Park. It’s located on the Boca Raton inlet. It offers a variety of activities like sightseeing at the pier, fishing, sail boarding, windsurfing, jet skiing, canoeing, and kayaking. It also features other facilities like a volleyball area, a children’s playground area, picnic tables with grills, restrooms and public showers.

Still another beautiful park is located about six miles from the center of Boca Raton – Delray Municipal Beach. This park encompasses a 7,000-foot beach and offers swimming, surfing, volleyball, sailing, windsurfing and snorkeling. There are also two recreational areas for activities like kite flying, throwing Frisbees, and paddleball. Cabana, umbrella, sailboat, sailboard and kayak rentals are all available. There’s a lifeguard on duty during the day from nine to five. So if your plan is to move to Florida, know that there will be plenty of ways to enjoy the beautiful weather in the Boca Raton area.

Community of the Week: Gleneagles Country Club

Gleneagles Country Club is located in Delray Beach, between Palm Beach and Boca Raton. It is perfectly positioned to take advantage of all the amenities that both cities have to offer. Gleneagles is situated on 400 lush acres, and there are lots of lakes and green belts to add to the visual appeal of the community. There are 1082 residences in the community: 220 single family fairway homes and 826 garden apartments. All the buildings have a Mediterranean design, which adds to the overall ambiance of the neighborhoods. Gleneagles is a gated community, which provides extra security for its residents. Security services are provided twenty-four hours a day.

The eighteen-hole Karl Litten Golf Course and its clubhouse are the centerpieces of the community. The clubhouse is 65,000 square feet and has an Olympic sized swimming pool attached. Every need of the golfer is serviced: there’s a pro shop, full time staff, classes, private lessons and league play. The freestanding fitness center looks like the equipment room on the “Biggest Loser.” It’s full of top rated equipment. There’s a full time staff and personal training is available. Classes like aerobics and yoga are offered. There are also “aquacise” classes in the Olympic size pool.

Tennis courts are also available to members and a full time tennis staff is “ready and willing” to serve patrons. Tournaments and league play are organized for the enjoyment of the players. In addition to all of these facilities in the main club area, there are also seven satellite clubhouses, each with its own pool, spa and fitness classes.

Great food can always be found at Gleneagles. The Legends Dining Room in the main clubhouse over looks the golf course. Its kitchen creates gourmet meals for those who desire a fine dining experience. Adjoining the Legends Dining Room is the Waterfall Room. It can be reserved for private parties and functions. Out by the pool is the Grille Room. It offers light lunches and casual evening dining. The Legend’s Lounge is where friends meet to chat or have drinks with others. Entertainment is offered and usually focuses on singers, comedians and musicians.

The community regularly sponsors a wide variety of activities and events. There are holiday celebrations, lectures and theme parties, concerts and dinner shows. Various games are offered including Bridge groups. The “On the Road” program is always well attended. Members are invited to join groups that visit local casinos, comedy clubs, museums, and other places of interest in South Florida. As the younger generation would say, “Gleneagles rules!”

Activities Offered by the City Parks and Recreation Department

Boca Raton has been described as a “Mecca” for outdoor enthusiasts and it certainly lives up to its name. But there are dozens of other available activities to suit every taste. Perhaps one of the most important venues for finding a variety of activities offered at reasonable prices is the Boca Raton Department of Parks and Recreation. This department offers events and activities that will appeal to different age groups. The Department of Parks and Recreation runs three community centers within the city, including the Boca Raton Community Center. This center sponsors literally hundreds of classes throughout the year. Some of the classes are geared towards adults, and some towards children. It’s impossible to cite the whole list of activities, but a representative sampling should suffice.

Many Boca Raton adults enjoy playing bridge and other card games. The center offers three levels of bridge instruction: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. After the instructional period, class members get to put what they have learned into practice by playing a few rounds. Instruction is continued during this play. The classes last for two hours and are offered for eight weeks. Unusual classes like woodturning are also offered. Lathes, tools and other materials are provided. Class members make several things including a box, bowl and candlestick. The classes last for eight weeks, three hours per class.

Dog obedience classes are especially popular and fill up fast. There’s a beginner dog obedience class and Intermediate one and Intermediate two. There’s also a puppy kindergarten for puppies ten weeks old to five months old. It emphasizes housebreaking, walking on a leash, and discouraging biting and chewing. Initially the dogs are taught basic commands and then can graduate to agility exercises.

There are also many classes for people who have a particular interest such as learning sign language or those who want to learn about “The Top Twenty Secrets of Great Singers: Their Mindset and Methods.” This class teaches those who aspire to be musical performers the musical and non-musical techniques involved in a memorable performance. And for those interested in fitness, there are a myriad of activities: Yoga at the Beach, Tai Chi, Trim Weight Control, and Judo.

There are also a plethora of children’s classes. An abridged list would include: violin, archery, baton twirling, pom-poms, tumbling, yoga kids, Bieber Fever (singing, acting and dancing), Musical theater, Mommy and Me Music for Toddlers, and Broadway Superstars. There are also several types of dance programs emphasizing creativity, rhythm and coordination. And a special boon to working parents, there’s a summer camp program for children in grades one through eight that runs for six weeks. As can be seen, the programs offered by the Parks and Recreation Department are plentiful. Don’t see anything you like? Check out their website. There’s sure to be something that will appeal to you!

Featured Golf Club of the Month: Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club

Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club is one of the most exclusive golf clubs in Boca Raton. It’s a private club, and anyone wishing to apply for membership must be invited to do so. This country club has maintained a tradition of elegance for over a half-century. Part of its mission statement is that it endeavors to provide fun for the entire family. Royal Palm features a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. The elegant clubhouse offers a high-end level of services to all members and their guests. Members are greeted by name, and the conscientious staff remembers their individual preferences. Both golf and social memberships are available with a capital contribution required at both levels of membership. A junior membership is also available. Junior members are responsible for only half the typical capital requirement.

In addition to golf, the club offers a 7,000-square-foot fitness center. The equipment is first rate and several fitness classes like Pilates and yoga are also available. Members of the fitness staff are on duty seven days a week and members have twenty-four hours a day access to the facility. For those who require a regular “pamper time,” there are massage therapists, skin care therapists, and steam rooms available.

Six tennis courts are located next to the fitness center. There are men and women’s leagues and tennis clinics for kids after school and on the weekends. Tennis aficionados can also reserve court time by calling a member of the tennis staff. For those traditionalists who like something a little different, here’s also a croquet pavilion with two championship greenswards. That perennial favorite, duplicate bridge, is available every Tuesday. The club also sponsors tournaments and lessons.

As if all of these facilities weren’t enough, the club also has its own marina on the bay. There’s a clubhouse for members with a nautical flair. There’s also a pool. Access to the ocean is only minutes away. Many members dock their yachts at this marina. There are hookups for phones, water and electricity. For the yacht owners’ convenience, there’s a full time dock master and concierge services available seven days per week. The yacht club regularly sponsors regattas, a fishing derby and organized excursions. Members have reciprocal privileges at thirty-five other yacht clubs throughout Florida.

Several dining options are available at both the golf club and the yacht club. In addition, numerous family oriented activities are offered, like parties, carnivals and “dive-in” movies. The facilities, amenities and activities it offers are some of the best in Florida.
