Boca Raton New Constuction Could Be Changing

There was some interesting news in the Palm Beach Post on Sept. 12^th. An article written by Gretel Sarmiento noted that city officials here approved sending two hot-button issues to the State to review. One is the Ocean Breeze Golf and Country Club development (proposed is 211 town homes and a 10,000 sq foot community center, plus an upgrade of the existing golf clubhouse and an addition of 46 more rooms at the Inn at Ocean Breeze). Also the existing three golf courses, at 5800 N.W. Second Ave., will be reconfigured and re-done into an 18-hole golf course and a brand new nine-hole executive golf course.

 As usual, there are people both for and against the project and some things needed to be ironed out. Neighbors of the proposed community are happier now that developer Dennis Taback agreed to reduce the height of the town homes to one and two stories only and to also increase the distance to 45 feet between the town homes and the existing homes. Also scheduled for review is the preliminary workforce housing program. This plan would require that developers building 10 or more homes set aside 10% of them as affordable, or pay the equivalent monies into the city's housing fund. In return, the city of Boca Raton would grant the developer a "density bonus" allowing them to build additional units. I think there should be a balance between progress and nature however I’d like to see some new homes built in the Boca area. This would undoubtedly boost the Boca Raton Real Estate market and would drive up sales rather quickly. Those who buy homes love brand new homes so this would be the way to go…at least for myself. We should not continue to build however if it means destroying the surrounding areas that make the Boca area so beautiful.
