A certified inspector must pass written tests and take courses to keep current on home inspection issues. The National Academy of Building Inspection Engineers has certain standards and requires members to be licensed professional engineers. If you live in an area where mold, pests or sinkholes are a common problem, ask if your inspector is trained for that.
